About Kilcredan National School (SN Cill Criodain)

Kilcredan National School (SN Cill Criodain) is a rural primary school serving the parish of Ladysbridge and Ballymacoda. It is under the patronage of William Crean Bishop of Cloyne. The school has seen a large growth in numbers over the past twenty years. The school has an enrolment of close to three hundred children. This includes twelve main stream classes and a special class for children who have a diagnosis of autism.

The school underwent a major refurbishment in 2014. This included six new classrooms, special education rooms, a GP hall and a new basketball court and a new car park. The existing building was also completely refurbished.

The school has close links to the local community. We have access to the Community field in Ahavine which has two full size GAA pitches, and also an astro turf pitch, a children’s playground and a walking track. We use these facilities when playing our home games in hurling, football and camogie. We also use the facilities when hosting our annual four mile race which is a fundraiser for the school.

Another wonderful asset is our proximity to the famous Ballymaloe Cookery School. Each year our sixth class pupils get to visit Ballymaloe for two days.

They learn all about growing their own food and vegetables whilst also being taught how to prepare the food and enjoy a delicious lunch which they have prepared themselves.

Our school is situated close to a number of sandy beaches. In recent times we have seen the development of a cliff walk in nearby Knockadoon.

Children engage in the full primary school curriculum. In addition we avail of the services of visiting teachers to offer additional support to the children. These include a safe cycling course organised by Cork sports partnership, a speech and drama teacher. Extracurricular events include, Sciath Na Scol, hurling, football and camogie, gymnastics, and choir. All of those are organised by staff members on a voluntary basis.

We have an active parents association who provide a valuable support to the school community.

The school has a staff of eighteen teachers, six special needs assistants, a secretary a part time caretaker and three part time cleaners. Our aim is to enable each child to be the best that he or she can be.
